Sunday in the cellar
One of the things we're doing in anticipation of the kitchen/bath remodel is getting the downstairs in shape so we can live comfortably for the 3-4 months it will take before our space becomes habitable again. Today, we tackled a number of projects to help with that aspect.
First off, we moved everything out of Cameron's music studio / office, so that Bryan's crew can get access to the areas where they'll be installing electrical and relocating the gas line for the new laundry and craft room.

Eventually, Cam's studio will be centered around my current desk, and my computer will move into the new space. For now, at least, we're sharing my old desk. Cozy, no?

Then, we replaced the old nasty mirrored sliding closet doors with new bi-fold louvered ones.

Actually, that breezy little sentence is making the project sound drastically easier than it actually was. We'd done this before -- way back at Casa Pequeña on Hermann Street -- and it took about 45 minutes. This time, it took most of the afternoon because the opening was just a teensy bit too short, and too narrow, to fit the doors. Cam had to trim a sliver off of three sides of the doors... argh! But they look gorgeous, and they let us get into the closet a LOT more easily.

I'm a tad worried we're going to get spoiled by all this space and find it hard to go back to the 1920s closet upstairs, when this is all done.
Today's last project: Installing a new shower rod, replacing the ugly green spring-loaded one that we'd inherited. Now, we'll be able to dry clothes downstairs without risking a total collapse.

We wrapped up the day with a Goodwill run, with ROQFORT stuffed to the roof with all kinds of things we'd been meaning to unload. Will I regret having donated my wedding dress? I think, mostly, no. It's not as though it was heirloom quality, anyway, and who'd wear it?! Better to have the closet space and the tax writeoff, and look at the pictures. :)
